The “Core” of Tailored Core Health (Copy)

What’s in a name?

In creating what is ultimately “Tailored Core Health” I wanted to highlight the heart of this practice- the core.

When people hear the word “core,” they often think about “the six-pack” muscles often highlighted in fitness magazines. While that’s certainly part of the core, the meaning behind the name goes much deeper.

The word core represents two essential foundations of health.

1. The Physical Core

From a medical and rehabilitation perspective, the core is an intricate system that includes:

  • Abdominal muscles

  • Back muscles

  • Pelvic floor muscles

  • Diaphragm

  • Deep stabilizing muscles of the spine and pelvis

Together, these structures provide stability, balance, and strength so we can more efficiently.  A healthy core supports everything from walking, lifting weights, to everyday activities including bowel, bladder, and sexual function.

When dysfunction occurs within this system, it can contribute to a wide range of symptoms, including:

  • Low back pain

  • Pelvic pain

  • Hip pain

  • Balance difficulties

  • Urinary incontinence

  • Recovery challenges after birth or surgery

As a physician specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and having treated men and women with chronic pelvic pain for many years, I understand how vital the physical core is to movement, function, and quality of life.

But, we cannot ignore:

2. The Core of Who We Are

Health is about more than muscles and movement.

At Tailored Core Health, I also focus on your life’s core foundation: the habits, values, and daily choices that shape your well-being.

This core includes:

  • Nutrition

  • Physical activity

  • Sleep

  • Stress management

  • Relationships and social connection

  • Purpose and meaning

  • Daily routines

These foundational elements influence how we feel, function, heal, and thrive.

Many people seek healthcare hoping for a quick fix to symptoms. While treating symptoms is important, lasting wellness often requires strengthening the deeper foundations that support health every day.

Just as a building relies on a strong foundation, our bodies and minds rely on healthy daily practices to remain resilient.

Bringing Both Meanings Together

The mission of Tailored Core Health is to address both aspects of health: the physical core and the foundational core of daily living.

Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain, navigating pelvic health concerns, improving mobility, or simply striving to feel your best, we look beyond isolated symptoms. We work together to build strength from the inside out.
